Kerr Place

An outstanding house museum located in the 300-year-old Port of Onancock, Virginia, on the Chesapeake Bay

Parlor at Kerr PlaceLocated in Onancock, Virginia, Kerr Place is the headquarters of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Historical Society. Built 1799-1803, for a prosperous merchant, John Shepherd Ker (original spelling), this elegant federal house has been restored to its appearance when built. Rich color, detailed plaster work, and finely crafted woodwork are found throughout the house. All have been carefully researched to allow the visitor to catch a glimpse of what life was like on a Virginia plantation circa 1800.

Period decorative arts and furnishings are used on the first floor to complete the interpretation of this early 19th century house. The second floor has museum rooms which help to interpret the rich history of the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
